Tips For Saving On An Out-Of-Town Wedding

Last year, we shared our best tips for organizing an Atlanta wedding on a budget. Now, let’s look at things from the guests’ point of view! Atlanta is a gorgeous city for weddings, and we want to be able to share that experience with you! Our best piece of advice is simple, yet true, and that’s to plan ahead. Once you have a budget in place, it makes things a little easier. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

The Travel & Hotel Accommodations

Some of the biggest expenses when attending an out of state wedding, is of course the travel and booking the hotel room.

Luckily, most hotels and airlines provide group rates and reduced fare programs. Be sure to check the couple’s wedding website or ask them directly about if they’ve secured a room block at a nearby hotel. Get a group together early on so that you can split a hotel room, or even a rental car if you decide to drive! Alternatively, you can also save money on ride sharing apps like Uber or Lyft to get you around the city.

The Outfit

We understand that it can be frustrating to buy an outfit you’ll only wear once, but we live in a time where you can rent anything at the touch of button. Check out rental websites like Rent The Runway or The Black Tux. You can find high quality clothing, shoes, and accessories for a fraction of the price. Best part is, you can send it right back when the event is over and not worry about an overflowing closet!

Alternatively, don’t be afraid to repurpose previously worn outfits. You can take anything you’ve worn in the past, add a new accessory or two, and it’ll look brand new!

The Gifts

Of course there are certain gift etiquette rules that guests should take note of, but there’s no reason for you to break the bank when you’re already paying for travel and hotel stays.

One of the best ways to save, and maybe earn some points with the future newlyweds, is to buy from the wedding registry early. Shopping early gives you the opportunity to pick from a wider range of gifts, and you won’t be left with items out of your price range.

Consider picking a gift theme and put multiple small gifts together, or you and good friend, or date, can contribute to a group gift. That way you stay within budget while also gifting something thoughtful.

Lastly, another helpful tip for when you’re booking travel or shopping online, is to search for deals and apply as many coupons as possible. Try browsing deals through sites like CouponFollow, or download its browser extension that automatically applies coupons for you!

We didn’t forget about you brides and grooms! There are plenty of other ways to do your part and help your out of town guests with saving for your big day, so be sure to look into those options. It’s a special day, and you’d want everyone to be able to attend, stress-free!
