For the Groom: Things to do Before saying I Do

For the Groom: Things to Do Before You Say “I Do”

In the months leading up to the wedding, couples can feel the immense pressure to get details finalized and errands checked off the list. Oftentimes, a lot of that pressure tends to fall on the couple’s shoulders in the final few months of planning. Whether you’re tending to yourself or offering your bride-to-be a helping hand, there’s a long list of things a groom needs to get a head start on early in the planning process. To avoid scrambling before the ceremony, be proactive and use some of the following tips to make these months a little less stressful for you and your bride.

[1] Participate in wedding planning.

Though this tip may seem a bit obvious, there’s more to helping your bride with planning than simply just showing up. Be present and give your input to show that you care about the big day. Take the initiative and start looking into recommendations for revered caterers and beautiful wedding venues.

Curate a list of guests and arrange a tentative seating chart ahead of time. Scope out some bands or DJs that you and your guests might enjoy to take some of the tasks off the to-do list. Your fianceé will surely thank you for all the time you’re saving her and appreciate the effort you’re putting forth to make your wedding day perfect.

[2] Think about your appearance long before the wedding day.

If you’re at all concerned about looking good on your wedding day, you’ll need to start making strides as soon as possible. Begin treatments, medications or products early on in the planning process in order to determine whether or not you can achieve your end goal by the day of the ceremony.

For example, if you’re one of the many men experiencing thinning hair and want thick and shiny hair on your wedding day, look into buying finasteride pills for hair loss months ahead to see results by the wedding day. Similarly, if you’re looking to get a pre-wedding tanning lotion, you’ll need to start applying weeks in advance to find the right shade for you. No matter what aspect of your look you want to shine on your wedding day, it should be dealt with in the initial months of engagement.

[3] Plan out your vows.

Vows are not always easy to come up with; many couples will spend a huge amount of time writing their vows. When you’re making a meaningful promise to someone that you’re planning to spend the rest of your life with, you want to make sure it’s perfect. As we all know, men can struggle with tasks like these, as many are not very articulate with their feelings. Not to mention the fact that public speaking isn’t everyone’s forte.

Start writing your vows as soon as you begin planning. Observe the small things your fianceé says or does that you love and appreciate and write them down. By the wedding day, you’ll have written down what you love about her and know what promises you want to make. That way you’ll be confident in saying your personal and emotional vows in front of friends and family.

[4] Surprise your future bride.

When preparing for a wedding, the second you finish worrying about one thing on the list, you start to worry about something else that needs to get done. Brides-to-be feel a ton of this pressure and sometimes just need to take a break.

Give her the day off and run some errands that she needs to check off. Remind her that she is your priority and surprise her with acts of appreciation. Enjoy a night off from wedding planning and take her on a date to her favorite restaurant. Write her notes and tell her how much you love and appreciate her. Small gestures can go a long way in boosting her mood and giving her the motivation to hop back into planning and get you two to the altar.
